National Scrapbooking Day, Pages with Papertrey

Happy National Scrapbooking Day!!! I am jumping up and down over here! This year I actually have something to share. Yay!!!

 

If you follow my blog, then you know I have been working on my son's baby album. The end is close. Aaaaagh!!!

 

As I was putting together this page, I decided that I would play along with Pages with Papertrey sketch #22. Originally I was only going to have one photo on this page, but I felt like it was lacking something. So this sketch was great.

 

It doesn't go perfectly with the sketch, since the 12x12 patterned paper came that way from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit. This page is opposite the monthly spread I shared a few days ago. Joshua had recently turned a year old and I also bought a remote shutter release for my camera. So I propped it up on a tripod and let Leah press the release button. She had such a fun time taking these pictures of us.

 

The center strip of patterned paper is from the kit along with the chipboard accent. I inked up PTI's Star Prints, Just the Ticket, FF#5, and Boy Basics: Grunge me (all used on the tickets). I used Tag Sale #3 for my journaling and the smile is a rub-on from the kit.

Pages with Papertrey sketch #31

Hello! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. The hubs and I had a great time enjoying some of the Florida Music Festival. If you missed my earlier post about this event, you can find out more here. I managed to find some time on Sunday afternoon to put this page together for Pages with Papertrey sketch #31. I had originally designed this page before even seeing the sketch. It is a bit off, but I believe my collage of photos works well with the sketch.

 

This page is one of the last 6 pages in my son's baby album. I have been using the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit. The 12x12 is patterned paper that is a part of the kit. I made my monthly images of my son into 2.5 inch squares, adhered them to a piece of rustic cream cardstock and trimmed off a small portion. I slipped on some photo corners  and then I adhered it to the patterned paper. I added the blue ruler sticker border that is also from the kit. I used my Tim Holtz tiny attacher for the staples and then adhered the chipboard stars that are also from the kit.

 

I love how this page captures just how much my little guy changed in his first year of life. I am so happy to have these memories.

 

I got the idea to take/make these monthly photos of my son from Susan Weinroth. She has a tutorial on her blog about how to make these onesies. As you can tell by the 12 month photo, I had run out of the white onesies and just couldn't bear to buy another packet of them for one photo session. So I just had him hold the cardstock up.

Pages with Papertrey

TGIF!!! This week has been super busy at work and home. Lucky for me, I had almost 40 hours before I went in to work today. That meant I would get to go home as soon our patient load would allow. So as soon as I got home, I quickly went to work on this layout. All week, I would find a bit of time to work on it. I just had to create the title and figure out where to put my few embellishments since most of the page consists of photos. The page plays along with Pages with Papertrey challenge #21: include birthday photos in your layout and use 1 PTI stamp and sketch #21.

 

 

This page represents just a few of the photos taken for my son's first birthday party. To see more photos from this day, you can visit my sister's blog and this post. There was a glitch with her blog so some photos are missing, but you will still be able to appreciate all of the events.

 

I have been using Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit for his baby album. But sadly, the only thing from the kit on this page is the 12x12 patterned paper. The rest of the elements are from PTI: Boy Basics: Rock On, Star Prints, Block Alphabet die and Pretty Peonies Happy die. This layout can also play along with challenge #11 which is to include an element on your page other than a photo. As you tell by the birthday hat photo, I saved the guitar/star embellishment and added it to the page.

 

On Sunday, we will be joining my sister and her family to celebrate my niece's birthday. She is turning 6. And I am happy to report that my little Leah has finally cut one of her top teeth. Pretty soon her toothless grin will be no more. I will be sad to see it go. They grow up way to fast. Pages with Papertrey sketch#18

Hello friends! I hope you had an awesome week. Mine was pretty productive on the homefront. Since I got off of work early today and I can't pick up the kids just yet, I thought I would pop in to share a layout that I finished yesterday. It plays along with Pages with Papertrey sketch#18. I did rotate the sketch and where there was a bit of blank space, I added another photo to fit my needs.

 

 

All of the elements are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit except the kraft and cream cardstock and twine. I diecut the title and added some machine stitching on the orange paper. I realize that although this is my son's baby album, I did add pink because of Leah's dress. When he is just in a diaper in the photos, I can do that, right? I also used Tag Sale#5 for my journaling. 

 

As soon as I pick up Leah from school, we will be busy making Valentine treats for her class and her brother's class. We've got lots to make, so I better get going. Thanks for stopping by!

 

Pages with Papertrey, Sketch #14

Happy Hump Day! I hope you have had a good week so far. I have been working on organizing some things around the house (that seems to never end, right?), some DT work and finishing up Joshua's baby album. Today I have a layout to share with you for Pages with Papertrey, Sketch #14.

 

 

This sketch is pretty simple. Thanks Leigh! You make scrapbooking less stressful.

 

 

All of the supplies are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit except the die cut title. I used some coasterboard to add more depth. The cream colored rectangle around my journaling is an acetate from the kit. I realize that this layout appears really crooked, but I struggled with getting the photo straight and cropping it.

Pages with Papertrey #17

Hi there! I hope you are all doing well and staying warm. I am popping in today with a layout that I created for Pages with Papertrey challenge 17. For this challenge, we are to create a layout using a Make-it-Monday technique. To be honest, it has been forever since I have been able to play along with PTI's challenges or any challenges for that matter. Sigh. And I also noticed that this challenge actually went up a year ago. So of course I am way behind on these challenges, but I am nearly finished with Joshua's baby album. To play along, I chose the challenge I most recently played along with which is creating a flag border. 

 

The pattern papers are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit except the mini dot Hawaiian Shores where I placed the title is PTI. The alpha stickers along with the dragonfly border are also from the kit. To create my border I die cut the papers with Tag Sale #5 and also Double Ended banner. Since I didn't crop the lower right photo, I had less room for journaling, so I added some more on the tag behind the lower left photo. I love that photo since it was the first Mother's Day that I celebrated with Joshua.

Pages with Papertrey sketch #13

Happy Friday! I am back, as promised, with another layout to share for Pages with Papertrey. This time I am playing along with Pages with Papertrey sketch 13. This layout is the second of month 9 in Joshua's baby album. The other page can be found here.

 



 

Until Josh was 1 years old, I took a picture of him every month. I made him a onesie to wear. You can find the tutorial here by Susan Weinroth. So for this month, my sister happened to be visiting so she brought along a prop. Um, we knew that he would be too big, but went ahead and stuffed him in this teacup planter. He was so stinkin' cute because he couldn't move! What better way to capture a picture of a little one who is always on the go. Ha! The patterned papers are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit along with the brown rub on letters, stars and striped ribbon. The cardstock is PTI (except the Kraft) and I die cut the letters and tag. The cream panel is embossed with Circle Interlock which DeNami Design carries, the twine is Lawn Fawn and the subtitle is from CAS-ual Fridays Rad.

Pages with Papertrey #11 and Elevators

Hi friends! I hope you are having a great week so far. The kids were off from school yesterday and the hubby and I actually had the day off. So we caught up a bit on some house stuff.

If you saw my post on Friday, you may have read that my husband was going to be playing in a music gig with some friends. Elevators (the name of their band) is a rock band and my guy does not look like a typical rocker. He is the tall one on the left wearing his "rock star" glasses. I am working on figuring out how to edit/add the little video I did. Once I do, I will put up another post. It was such a fun night and the band rocked it out. Way to go Niki, Matt, Ryan and Andy!

Now for my layout..

With the holidays behind us and some design team work under my belt, I found some time to work on some pages. I will slowly get those up on the blog too. The first page I have to share is for Pages with Papertrey #11: Preserve an element (other than photos or journaling). Yes, I know I am way behind on challenges, but the good news is that I only have 5 pages left!

When I first saw this challenge, I knew immediately that I was going to create a layout preserving my son's first hair cut.  Technically the first time that his sweet little head saw clippers, he was only 3 months old because he had a baby mullet that needed to disappear. So when his gorgeous locks needed a real hair cut, I called up my stylist, Ken. Ken has been doing my hair since 2002 and the gray hairs on my head are quite thankful for his artistry.

There were two separate occasions where I thought I had misplaced this lock of hair *gasp* Thankfully, I found it.

The inspiration for the design of this page was this layout. I had previously sketched out something else and it just wasn't coming together. The papers are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit, rustic cream cardstock and die cut letters are PTI, along with the date stamp. The "memories" stamp is Ali Edwards Favorite Memories. It's crazy how Joshua's lock of hair looks so dark, almost blackish. It was light brown. And it is amazing how thick it has grown in. The picture below was taken a week ago.

Pages with Papertrey, Sketch 20

Hi friends! I hope you have had a great week. I managed to find a bit of time this week to work on Joshua's baby album. Yay!!!! I only have one page to share, but I am slowly closing in on finishing this project. Today's layout plays along with Pages with Papertrey sketch #20. The kit that I have been using is Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit. Unfortunately there are only 2 items from the kit on this page: the blue graph patterned paper and the epoxy elephant sticker. The rest of the supplies are Papertrey Ink.

 

I used my silhouette and block alphabet die for the title. I inked up Boy Basics: Grunge me to add some detail to the grey cardstock. I did the same to the Tag Sale#3 die cuts and added some machine stitching. I also used Label Basics, Mini Scrapbook series: Library Ledger and additions in the left bottom corner for the date. The texture on the Enchanted Evening die cut is one of the new embossing folders that DeNami Design is now carrying: Thin Lines. I love the texture that it gives. Oh, and I am aware that the stitching is quite off. That's what happens when you are on a mission to finish a project that you have been working on for 2 years! Ha!

Pages with Papertrey, Use a negative die

Happy Monday friends! I hope you all have had a nice and relaxing weekend. I was lucky enough to have Friday off from work. This meant that I got to meet my little girl for lunch. I try to meet her at least once a month. We have such a fun time chatting over peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches. After lunch, I was able to quickly put together this layout for Pages with Papertrey 15: Use the negative die cut for your layout. I used a sketch from Got Sketches which you can find here.

 

 

All of the elements except the cream border are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit. Since Leah's Easter dress had pink flowers in it, I thought it would be fun to incorporate some pink into Joshua's baby album. It is an Easter layout, right? So I chose colors that went with her dress. I used PTI's Turning a New Leaf die on the yellow graph paper to allow the green polka dots to show through. I layered a die cut flower from Beautiful Blooms #2 and added an epoxy sticker from the kit for the center. For the title, I used PTI's Angled Labels and added some letter rub ons from the kit. To the right I added a metal clip with another epoxy sticker. And lastly, I used an old EK Success border punch on the cream cardstock.

 

This layout came together for me pretty quickly, just a couple of hours. That is quite a feat for me since I can mull over a layout for days most of the time. Yay for the little things! I have about 10 pages left of Joshua's baby album and I still have a goal to finish before the end of the year. That means I need to do about 3 pages a month. That is honestly a lot for me to do, but it is still possible. We shall see.

Pages with Papertrey, Family time

TGIF! It's been a long work week for me, despite the holiday. Whew! I am back, as promised, with the second half of a layout for Pages with Papertrey.

 

Today's layout it for Sketch 16. I took the liberty to tweak the placement for the title and journaling to fit my needs. I added the same background stamping to the kraft cardstock to match the second half of this two page layout. Although this album is full of 2 page layouts, I guess I can officially say that I have played along with Challenge 18: Create a 2 page layout.

I used stickers from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit for the title, along with my Silhouette Cameo. The diagonal red stripe washi tape reminds me of candy canes, ya think? I added some more glittered buttons. There aren't really many opportunities to add glitter to boy scrapbook pages, but I think Christmas layouts are perfect for this. The red patterned paper is from a huge DCWV Christmas pack and the green paper is from the Becky Higgins kit. I added the subtitle using PTI's Label Basics for the diecut and Signature Christmas. I thought it was perfect since the photo on the left is of Joshua celebrating his first New Year's Eve. The final touch was adding some machine stitching to the polka dot paper.

Pages with Papertrey

Hello friends! I mentioned about 2 weeks ago, that I had a tiny bit more time on my hands to work on some projects. I am bound and determined to finish my son's baby album before the holiday season is upon us. So I have a layout to share with you for Pages with Papertrey.

 

This layout started off as Sketch 17, but then I realized quickly that I could stamp my own background and fulfill two challenges since Challenge 13 is to create a layout without using patterned paper . Love that!

I inked up PTI's Peace Be Still snowflakes with Vintage Cream ink onto some kraft cardstock. Then I layered my pictures onto some Rustic Cream cardstock. For the title,  I inked up Mini Scrapbook Series: Library Ledger with Vintage Cream ink onto the second side of some green patterned paper from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby  kit. I also used stickers from the kit. I did the same thing to some Pure Poppy cardstock that is in the bottom right corner.

The red ribbon is Pure Poppy saddle stitch and the polka dot is from the kit. While adding/making my embellishments for the page, I decided to add some glittered buttons to enhance the Christmas feel of the page. This happens to be Challenge 17, which is to add a Make-it-Monday technique. I used my Silhouette to cut out some Tabbed folders (5834) out of Spring Moss paper and I used Mini Scrapbook series for the date and info as well as my own handwriting (ugh- I am not a fan). The bottom photo has a clear acetate from the kit, which is why you see the reflection of my shirt in the left side of the photo. Oops. The monthly chipboard accent is also from the kit.

Pages with Papertrey, Sibling love

Happy Monday! I know it may seem rather strange for me to post on Monday, but with a "bit" of spare time on my hands, I decided that I really need to tackle finishing Joshua's baby album. There is about 12-15 pages left and I am bound and determined that I will finish it sooner than later. So while going through his baby pictures, I discovered that never did post a layout that I have already completed. It is the other half of this page. What I really love about the page I have to share today is the combination of aqua and red. Red can sometimes be so hard to work with, especially in a baby album when you think of pastels.

At 7 months, Joshua was celebrating his first Valentine's Day. It has been a tradition ever since Leah's first Valentine's Day to take pictures on this holiday. Why? Well, this holiday falls a week before her 1/2 birthday, so it is a great way to make sure that I have pictures that show how much she has changed in half of a year. Since Josh's birthday is close to hers, it works out well for him too.

So to create my layout, I used some patterned paper and the love rub on from Becky Higgin's Sweet Baby kit. The gray paper is Cordinations and the rest is PTI. This layout falls into two Pages with Papertrey challenges: Use a combination of fonts for you title (16) and Use at least 3 different dies, bonus if they are from different collections (19). So to create my title, I die cut "sibling" using Block Alphabet in Pure Poppy cardstock. Then I inked up "love" from 2010 Love Tags. I fussy cut it out. To make my subtitle, I inked up "love" again and then selectively stamped the "you" from Big Bold Wishes and adhered it with some stitching.

On my journaling block, I stamped Background Basics: Newsprint in Soft Stone. I also did this to the "love" in my title and subtitle and also to my rectangle label die embellishment. It is subtle, so it is hard to see, but it is there. I guess this also qualifies this page for challenge 14, Use a stamp repeatedly on your layout. The Valentines Day sentiment come from Heart Prints.

The last detail on this page uses the rectangle from Label Basics, stamped in Pure Poppy. Layered on top I added a tag from Tiny Tags II inked in Aqua Mist with a sentiment from the same set inked in Dark Chocolate. I finished it off with the Pure Poppy's bakers twine.

I have one last thing to share about this layout. If you look at Joshua's white onesie, you will notice a red heart and also some red words. I wanted him to have a Valentine outfit for the photos, but the thrifty me did not want to spend $20 on something he would wear once. So luckily he had a red onesie and a plain white Gerber onesie. I used these white onesies for his monthly photo session. So this was the last one in the pack, that he had really outgrown. I decided to die cut "be mine" from Block Alphabet and a heart from Heart Prints and simply glue the paper onto the onesie. You can see just how small it was on him, but in my opinion, it didn't go to waste *wink*.

Pages with Papertrey sketch #10 and more

 Hi friends! This post has been long awaited. I am finally getting some time to share with you one of the latest pages I created for my son's baby album. I have been playing along with  Leigh's Pages with Papertrey challenge. The first of the month is a technique challenge and the 15th of the month is a sketch challenge. My layout started off with sketch #10. By the time I finished it, I realized that I actually used  challenge 16: combine different elements for your title and challenge 19: use 3 different dies on your layout (bonus points if they are from different collections *wink*)

 

For my layout, the patterned paper is from the Becky Higgins: Sweet Baby kit. The gray panels are Core-dinations canvas cardstock which appear almost like woodgrain in the photo. The kit comes with a monthly age title and coordinating chipboard circle. Since I was using black and white photos, I opted to create my own using my circle nestie and the number 7 from PTI's By the Numbers die. I sprinkled the inset with some stars from the SuperStar border die.  I used some red washi from Target and the chevron and graph washi are from DeNami Design. For my title, I die cut some Dark Chocolate cardstock using the happy sentiment from Pretty Peonies. I inked up Background Basics: Newsprint in Fresh Snow ink and stamped over it. The word brother is a rub on from the Sweet Baby kit.  I layered the title onto a tag that I die cut using Tag Sale #3. I finished the layout with some buttons and twine. 

So much for finishing his baby album before his second birthday which is in just 1 month. I gave it a good effort. Life just gets so busy. I still have 12 more pages to finish to complete it. Maybe I can get it done before school starts up in the fall.

Pages with Papertrey #15 sketch

First, I want to wish my readers a very Happy Easter. I hope you get to spend some time with family and friends.

As promised, I am back again today to share a layout for my son's baby album. This time I played along with Pages with Papertrey #15 sketch which is from PageMaps.

The patterned paper, sticker, rub-on and chipboard are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit. I used some Papertrey Ink Orange Zest saddle stitch ribbon, Star Prints and Angled Labels for the rest of the embellishments. This was a great sketch to include many photos. Thanks Leigh!

Pages with Papertrey #10

Three cheers for finally getting this post up! Hip, hip, hooray!!! We are already 3 months into the new year and I had high hopes I would stay on track with my goal to finish my son's baby album before he turns two in July. I need to complete 2-3 layouts a month to accomplish this goal. January- check, February- this month is just too short, March- *insert crickets chirping*.  I actually completed this page at the beginning of the month, I just haven't found the time to post it. So without further ado, my page.

 

The challenge for Pages with Papertrey #10 is to add an interactive element to your page. I knew instantly that I wanted to add some pull out journaling. When my son turned 6 months old, there were quite a few milestones to document, so hidden journaling allowed me to add many photos to my page. He started solids and also had some major surgery.

 

 

I found a sketch from PageMaps to use, but changed it up a smidge. The papers, except the Kraft, are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit. The stickers and scallop border are also from the kit. I used my PTI Super Star border and Limitless Circles. I die cut my title using my Silhouette. The font is used is called Lobster. I just love that font! It is a beautiful, bold cursive.

 

 

 

Since the journal card was going to be placed behind some photos, I opted to pop the photo up on some foam tape.

 

 

Here is the card. You might notice the strip of paper that doesn't match the rest of the card. Well, when I was nearly done writing, a huge blob of ink rolled off my pen and *splat* right onto the card. So I opted to just cover it up with some paper since it stays hidden on the layout.

Pages with Papertrey #12

Happy hump day!!! I hope you are having a good week so far. I have finally gotten around to sharing the second page of a 2 page layout for my son's baby album. All of the elements are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit except the patterned paper used for the title and journaling.

 

 

This layout was created for Pages with Papertrey challenge #12. I also modified a previous sketch #4 for my layout.  For challenge #12, we are to make a title using patterned paper. There are some aplha stickers and rub ons that come with the kit, but they were either too big or too small for what I wanted. So I decided to cut out my title using my Silhouette. The patterned paper is from Papertrey Ink's Library Ledger collection and the sentiment is design id#9425. I cut it twice also using some of the blue grid paper from the kit to give it a shadow effect. I have seen Nichol Magourik use this technique all the time and it really gives it some depth. I used the same patterned paper to journal on. The arrows were also cut with my Silhouette design id#20270. I added some glossy accents (which unfortnately you cannot see in the photo) and popped them up with foam adhesive.

The middle arrow in the layout is pointing to the reflection in the ornament. I wanted to include this photo in my son's baby album because at this age, he still took 3 naps a day. So after I picked him up from daycare, he would snuggle up in the carrier and I would get a bit of crafting done. As you can tell by the Christmas tree, this was around the holidays, which we all know is a busy time. He is the little black blob in the center of the ornament.

I have the next two pages I am working on for his album laid out on the scrap table already. Fingers crossed for some time to actually work on putting them together. Thanks for stopping by!

Pages with Papertrey sketch#11

So, if you follow my blog, you know that I have been trying to catch up on my littlest one's baby album. I had started  blogging when he was only 6 weeks old and Leigh over at to the full had also just started Pages with Papertrey. We have 2 challenges a month: a crafty challenge at the beginning and then a sketch challenge in the middle of the month. I was thrilled because I knew that I would use these challenges to help me get up to date on my daughter's school album and work on my son's baby album. I was able to keep up with the monthly challenges until my baby started crawling, and then all crafting during daylight hours went out the window.

As most of you may also heard me say, I am not the quickest crafter out there. This is especially true of scrapbooking. I feel like it is a big comittal thing. My children will have these pages forever, so of course I want to make them the best that I can. I will typically have papers and pictures laid out and play around with them and stare quite a bit while I work on other cards or projects.

So with the start of the new year, I have set a goal for myself to finish his album. This means that I have 2-3 pages to complete every month. So far I am on track. This page is part of a 2 page layout. The other is just waiting to be glued down, so you will see it before the month is over.

 

I am submitting this page for Pages with Papertrey sketch#11. The patterned paper, stickers, ribbon, photo corners, overlay and chipboard are from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit. I created a journaling block using Label Basics and Library Card. I did use Kraft ink on kraft cardstock using Mini Scrapbook series: Library Ledger to make some patterned paper. I tried to add different embellishments on the corners of the picture, but nothing I did turned out like I had hoped. Since the chipboards had some sentiments on them, I left it alone.

Pages with Papertrey, sketch #8

Don't worry, you are in the right place. I know that it has been a while since I have posted a layout. The last time was back at the end of July to be exact. Let's just say that a little 17 month old boy that is full of energy and personality is the reason. No lie.

But to be honest, this page started out probably back in October. No matter what I did, I wasn't pleased. I changed out the patterned papers multiple times, I had different ideas to labels some of the pictures individually, etc. Sigh. I finally decided to stick these pictures down, add some stars and just be done with it.

The sketch for this challenge was created by the fabulous Leigh. This girl has amazing talent to not only scrapbook layouts at amazing speeds but create awesome sketches, too.

I am still working on my son's baby album and using the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit. This page is the second part of his 3 month layout. The 12x12 cardstock is Bazzill and the stars are PTI's Star Prints that I stamped and fussy cut. The remaining items are from the kit. Thanks for stopping by!

Pages with Papertrey, sketch #9

***Gasp*** I know it's been a while since I've played along with Pages with Papertrey. Let's see, this page plays along with Pages with Papertrey sketch #9. Leigh used this sketch.

I really had these images printed out and sitting on a piece of 12x12 paper before my son's 1st birthday. Yes, over a month ago, I thought I would scrap this layout. But no adhesive ever touched the page. It's actually a good thing for me, I think. There was something about it that just wasn't right. You, see, the photos that I intended to use were 3x4. If they were a bit bigger, they would've filled in the space and I just felt it was too empty. So I decided to use some paper to fill it in a bit.

I used some PTI Rustic Cream cardstock along with other papers from the Becky Higgins Sweet Baby kit. The "3 month" chipboard circle and "family" rub-on were also part of the kit. I used my PTI Banners die to create the banner and added epoxy stickers from the kit on top. I used score tape underneath the banners to adhere it and placed the banners on top with foam tape. It was a little easier than I thought to make it work. The bows I simply adhered using a glue dot right on top of the banner. The file tab is a sticker which is also from the kit. I used PTI's Mini Scrapbook series: Library Ledger for the date as well to make my journal lines. The main 12x12 is Quicksand from Bazzill.

I have also been trying to work on the second half of this 2 page layout. Yes, these pictures have been "staring" at me as well. Do not fear, though. They will make it to the blog soon. And I have also started that sewing project that I eluded to before in my PTI July blog hop post. It's amazing how much "free" time I have now that I am not planning a birthday party.
