A difficult thing

This week's Make-it-Monday is 2011 a la carte. If there were any challenges that we might've missed out on during 2011 and didn't get to try, this is our chance.

I decided that I would make a card that is tough for most card makers, a sympathy card. Nobody really wants to have a bunch of these in their stash. It puts a lump in your throat. These kinds of cards don't get tossed by most. You see, I still have all of the cards given to me when my mother and grandmother passed away.

I used PTI's Botanical Silhouettes. You have seen this card design here, classic and simple. I have really fallen in love with this set. So versatile, really. I used Ocean Tides ink. I haven't used this in a while. Over the last few months, I have learned that my style tends towards bright colors. So glad that I brought it out. Ocean Tides is really a great color to have in your stash.

My prayers go out to the recepient of this card. My heart is heavy because I know that it will be removed from my stash of cards sooner than later. Sigh.

  1. That is a beautiful card. I am so sad that you will be needing it soon. I also find sympathy cards difficult. I made several of them last week, because I can't forsee a need at this point, and I find them easier to make if I don't have a recipient in mind.

  2. This is lovely, Deb! The ocean tides is a great choice of colour for a sympathy card.
I hope you don't need to give it away soon, though....

  8. Yes, dear Sis, I know you have in mind with this card. Heartbreaking would be an understatement. I, too, wish it would collect a lot of dust. *insert cry* We know it won't be much longer. I don't know how you managed to keep the card dry while making it. Perhaps you can make another for me to give. ;)

  11. Deb,
This is beautiful. I agree, I don't like to make sympathy cards, but I do it because I know that receiving them helps the grieving person know that someone cares. This set with this layout and color combination are really nice - the perfect touch of elegance and appropriateness.

  13. I loved this card you made. I copied it with a friend this weekend to fill up my sympathy cards stash. I won't use them up in a hurry but as I age I notice that I use sympathy cards more often.
