I am back to share Leah's card for One Layer Simplicity. Grrr for not being able to link up multiple cards from one post.

 

She desparately wanted to make white stars. I had to tell her that it would be hard to add red to her card if she used a dark cardbase and kept it one layer. Since she saw me playing with my sponging and masking, we came up with an idea. We used post it tape to mask off an area so she could create an area to stamp her white stars on. She is such a quick learner and I think she did fabulous sponging on the ink. She used Teeny Star from DeNami in Snow White. Then she inked up Long Solid Rectangle in Pure Poppy to create her flag pole

Happy 4th! (part 2)

Hello friends. I am back as promised, but a little sooner that I expected. My daughter Leah was with me in my craftroom and saw me creating my card and wanted to play along.

 

My card plays along with two challenges: One Layer Simplicity and PTI's MIM: Masking with Dies (insert gasp). It's been quite a while since I have played along with MIM, so I was excited to try out this technique.

To create my diagonal stripes, I used a stencil that I created with my Silhouette Cameo. I created this stencil waaay back using PTIs Stampers Select white. It is quite sturdy and has been used several times and is in great shape even though it is cardstock. I die cut the medium star from Star Prints and adhered it to my cardstock first, then layered my striped stencil on top using my zig 2 way pen. I sponged on some Enchanted Evening pigment ink. My pad is quite dry so I think it's great to create a subtle effect. I used Pure Poppy for my star image and added my sentiment in Memento Tuxedo black in.

 

Next up is Leah's card.

Happy Independence Day!

To all of my American blog readers, Happy Independence day! I hope you day is filled with fun, relaxation, family, friends and lots of yummy food. Oh, and let's not forget fireworks! Yay!

Today I have a card to share with you that plays along with the challenge over at One Layer Simplicity: create a card inspired by your country's flag.

  

 

Not only did I used red, white and blue, but I also incorporated stars and stripes. I used only DeNami Design products for my card. I inked up Three Line Border in Pure Poppy. Since the stamp is just slightly smaller than the length of my card, I masked off one end and then did the same on the other end. Unfortunately after inking up all of my stripes, I realized that there was some sort of blob on my stamp. Grrr. After all of that work, I did not want to start over.

Then I inked up Teeny Star in Heid Swapp Navy. I was a little "off:" in my stamping, but I had already put in too much effort to stop now. I also added a score line between the stars and stripes.

One Layer Simplicity, Merci

So, as promised, I have returned to share my daughter's card for the One Layer Simplicity challenge.

 

 Saturday morning, when I was in my craft room creating my card, she told me, "I haven't made a card for a blog hop in a long time." Quite often she creates a card and plays along with the DeNami Design blog hop. The current hop is a week away, but this little avid crafter created her card 2 weeks ago. So she was itching to create a card. I explained to her the theme, we discussed the stamps that I have in my stash and she got busy making her card.

 

 

To create her little scene in France, she inked up Cafe Chickies and colored it in with copics. Then, she drew her Eiffel Tower using a colored pencil. I do not really have many foreign language sentiments, so she inked up Merci from CAS-ual Fridays Big Thanks. Then to create her skyline, she inked up Chickie in Balloon and Small Cloud and finished her coloring. In case you do not know, my little girl is only 6 1/2 years old.

 

Even though I do not have an Eiffel Tower stamp, that did not stop her from creating her little café scene in France. She even told me that she could draw France. I love that she doesn't let little things hold her back. She is so creative and I learn so much from her when she crafts.

Sending You Sunshine, One Layer Simplicity

Hello friends! On Saturday, I had hoped that I would be back with another card to cheer on my Florida Gators, but sadly they couldn't pull off the win against UCONN. Oh, well. They had an awesome season to be extremely proud of.

 

Today I have a card to share with you for the current One Layer Simplicity Challenge. This month's challenge is to create a travel themed card: a destination or mode of transportation to get there. For my card, I created a square mask using some scratch paper and removeable adhesive. I used a sponge to ink up the perimeter of the card using PTI's Aqua Mist ink. Then I inked up Palm Tree Silhouettes in Rich Cocoa Memento ink, wiped off the leaves with a baby wipe and then inked up the leaves in New Leaf. I used my copic marker to add a bit of shading underneath. I used Small solid circle to represent the sun and then added Sending You Sunshine for my sentiment. I missed the last two challenges, so I am glad that I found some time to play along with this one.

My daughter, Leah, saw my card and was inspired to play along as well. I will be back to share her card in a little bit. Let me just say that I love her imagination and creativity!

 



One Layer Simplicity, Thank-you and Joshua's 2 1/2 birthday photos

I am back today to share a quick card and some pictures from our little family birthday celebration for Joshua turning 2 1/2 years old yesterday.

First, my card...I decided to try my hand at some random watercoloring. Leah received a pad of watercolor paper for Christmas since she likes to paint. So I asked her if I could borrow some to make a card and paint along with her. We had such a fun time Sunday afternoon painting together in my craftroom.

I inked up Medium Double Circle and Small Stitched Circle. Then I randomly painted them and added my sentiment from Assorted Greetings stamp set. I am linking this up to One Layer Simplicity. I am in desperate need of restocking some thank you cards.

I also thought that I would share the paintings that Leah did. She asked me to pull up some photos from the internet to inspire her on the iPad. What a hoot! So, I asked her to hold up her artwork so I could photograph it. Well, wouldn't you know it, but Josh had to help her hold up her artwork.

 

 

 

 

So then I decided to snap a few pictures of him out on the porch just because.

Tradition has it on our household to celebrate half birthdays with cupcakes. Any excuse to enjoy some sugar, right? This year my in-laws decided to give him a simple puzzle. He's been playing some puzzle games on the iPad, so he was so happy to receive this gift.

 

 

 We picked up some dinosaur cupcakes at the grocery store. You may remember from the kiddos monster birthday party this summer, that I made some cupcakes from scratch. Well, something went wrong with this batch, so it was Publix to the recue. Recognize the party hat? Yep, leftover from the same party.

 

 I love how he seems to be looking so dreamily at his cupcake.

 

 

 

Josh received some dinosaurs at this 2nd birthday party, so I asked Leah to bring a few to the table to take some pictures. Well, her take on a few meant almost the whole bucket of dinosaurs. Gotta love that! I know Josh did. (Don't you love the candle flame reflection on his sweet little head?)

Happy Birthday, Friendly Robot

My daughter needed a birthday card for a classmate. So naturally I was assuming the role of cardmaker when the lightbulb went off...Leah is a cardmaker herself. She tends to create one layer cards when coloring DeNami images, so I told her that I would link it up with a new challenge One-Layer Simplicity. The challenge is to create a card/s to restock your shelves. This one, however, will be off our shelf this weekend. I have some great ideas to participate in this challenge myself since I rarely make one layer cards and they are perfect for mailing. 

Leah inked up Friendly Robot, Happy Birthday script and Small Stitched Circle. She colored in the robot herself. The only part I played in making this card was helping with the splatter.

After photographing her card, I realized that is also plays along with the current C AS(E) this Sketch! Her card is flipped on the side. It is so fun to see that Leigh's daughter is the guest designer this week. That young girl has some awesome talent.
