CAS-ual Fridays, Banners and flags

This card is already in the hands of the recepient, my daughter. Just about 1 week ago, my little girl turned 5 years old. I can hardly believe that she has started kindergarten. Because I went all out celebrating her brother's first birthday, we kept this party very low key. The only decor for this party was cupcakes and some marshmallow pops. I didn't even make the liners! This girl had a blast hanging out with family and eating cupcakes and pops despite the lack of party decor. She had picked out her top when we went school shopping. When we went to Michaels to buy the cupcake liners, I knew which ones she would pick out. I love this little girl's style! Pink, pink, pink!

I know she appears less than thrilled, but if you are a parent of little one, then you know how hard it is to try capturing a photo without a goofy smile or eyes darting away from the camera. She really was in a good mood. Honest.

Papertrey Ink August blog hop

I hope everyone's weekend is off to a good start. Today I have a card to share for Papertrey Ink's August blog hop. There is so much inspiration, I love it! Here is our fabulous challenge.

 

 

 

Since I do not have the Herringbone IP or stamp set or have any tweed or burlap in my stash, I opted to create a card using felt. I did contmeplate using my Background basics: Houndstooth, but ended up using 2 pieces of left over felt from another project. Hmm, that project was 1 1/2 years ago. Now I finally get to clear off my shelf  use my scraps. Yay!

 

 

 

I kept the colors neutral by using Soft Stone for my cardbase. I stamped the Library card in the same ink onto my notebook die cut. The dark chocolate felt flower was die cut from Beautiful Blooms II #1 and then layered with a cream felt butterfly from Butterfly Dreams. I finished it off with a Spring Moss button and rustic twine. The sentiment is from Big Bold Wishes stamped in Dark Chocolate onto my Double ended banners die cut.

DeNami Product spotlight, Back to School Chickie

I used Kraft cardstock for my cardbase. I love this cardstock because it is so useful for so many types of cards. For this card in particular, it reminds me of the brown paper bags that I used to cover my text books with. Remember those days? I stamped the Back to School Chickie and A Little Message for You in black onto my notebook die cut and colored in my image with copics. I added some Golden Tangerine twine and a Ruby Red button and finished it off with a bow. That gorgeous twine reminds of of school bus yellow, and coordinates perfectly with this image.

CAS-ual Fridays, splish splash

Happy Wednesday friends! This morning I have a card to share with you for CAS-ual Fridays. The challenge this week is to create a clean and simple project featuring something you might see in the ocean.

I chose to use this adorable little crab image from my Create a Critter cartridge. He looks as if he is enthusiastically waving his pinchers in the air to wish someone a happy birthday. Isn't he stinkin' cute?! To create my sand, I brushed the dust off my old Creative Memories paper trimmer. I don't think they even make it anymore. I used Papertrey Ink's Sunshine Impression plate to give my card a sun effect.

CAS-ual Fridays, fit to be square

Hello, friends! This week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge is to create a clean and simple square card.

I created my square card 4x4. I used Altered Laugh and Carol's flower, small to create my card. Ink and cardstock is PTI. I finished it off with the Buttercream twine from The Twinery. Don't forget that there is still time to link up and play along. You have until noon on Thursday!

DeNami August Blog hop

Hi everybody! I hope you are having a fabulous time visiting the DeNami blog hop. You should've arrived to my blog from Kerri Smith's blog. I am the final stop along the hop.

I used only 2 stamps to create my bright and colorful card. Rainbows are always colorful, right? You should've seen my inky fingers by the time I was done. I stamped the chevron image from Modern borders (cling) in various colors onto white cardstock. I love the bit of texture that it has and gives those chevrons a different look. I trimmed my panel and adhered it onto another piece of white cardstock. I stamped my sentiment Thinking of You in black ink.

Long awaited

Yay! I have finally had to chance to photograph and blog my fabric creation that I had teased you with long ago. I actually finished it during the start of the Olympics, but with daily swimming lessons and Florida thunderstorms, I finally have the weekend and sunshine on my side.

These are the fabics that I used. The main bodice is from Heather Bailey's Freshcut collection, Groovy in Olive. The contrast fabric is from Sandi Henderson's Secret Garden collection, Vintage Ironwork in Leaf. These fabrics are sooooo yummy!!!!!

The pattern that I used is McCalls M6313. I used it to create two other tops for my daughter, one which was picked up for my first publication for Simply Handmade, Sewing. It will soon be in print for the Sept/Oct issue. Can you tell that I am on pins and needles with excitment. Since I had to send it away, I just had to create another one for my daughter to wear.

This pattern actually calls for 3 different fabrics, but since I was only able to find 2 coordinating fabrics, it still works well. I encourage any of you who may be contemplating sewing to try this pattern out. It is rather simple since there is a lot of matching of raw edges. It does require 7 casings for elastic in the back bodice and making 2 buttonholes, but that is where the "difficulty" ends. It is a shame that I did not photograph the steps that I took in making this to encourage you to try it, but maybe I will remember for my next sewing project. Here are some photos of my precious, almost 5 year old wearing her new, fun top. I can't believe she starts Kindergarten in 2 days!

I also thought I would share a few other photos from our "session". Some of these were taken in the morning and others in the evening. We know how cooperative kids can be.

This is what she did most of the time. If you look closely you can see the asphalt pebble diamond between her fingers.

And any photo session with my daughter would not be complete without a fake laugh.

I stamped my image onto Kraft cardstock. I found a fabulous downloadable pdf on the SimonSaysStamp blog with a tutorial created by Kristina Werner. I created ny sun rays using two tones of yellow cardstock. I attached them to my cream cardbase. I stamped Sending you Sunshine on a strip of matching cardstock. Then I finished it off with some yellow buttons and twine.

CAS-ual Fridays, Cloud 9

Hi friends! This week's CAS-ual Fridays challenge is to create a clean and simple project using things you might see in the sky: clouds, planes, kites, birds, etc.

I created my card using Fly a Kite from DeNami. This stamp was a product spotlight a couple of weeks ago. I've mentioned it before, but is is worth mentioning again, this stamp is super versatile. I colored in the image with my copics. I punched out some clouds on some scrap cardstock with my Fiskars cloud punches. It was previously impressed with my PTI Linen/canvas IP plate, but it is hard to see in the photo. It really adds the perfect texture to the clouds, yet keeps the card simple. I finished it off with a sentiment from Studio Calico and some aquamarine twine.

DeNami sketch challenge #13

Happy Monday everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start. It's time for the Denami sketch challenge!!! Today's sketch was created by the talented Kanani.

I created my card using Desert Orange cardstock for my card base and white cardstock for the front panel. I absolutely loved what Kanani did for her July blog hop card that I just had to try this technique myself. I scored the panel at 1/4 in increments and then adhered several Small Solid Hibiscus  flowers. I stamped them in orange, aqua and yellow and then fussy cut them. I love orange and blue together because they are opposites on the color wheel and not just because I graduated from the University of Florida *wink*. The sentiment A Little Message for You was stamped in versamark and then heat embossed in white. I added Melon twine and finished it off with an aqua button and a twine bow.

Enjoy your new house!

Hope you are enjoying the start of your weekend. Today I have another card to share with you. I created this CAS card rather quickly for my in-laws. They are moving today and will now live about 10 minutes from our house!!! So happy to have them closer, not that the 35 minute commute was terrible. But I am just plain happy to have them so close.

I used only two DeNami stamps. I stamped Three Houses and colored them in with my Copics. I am VERY new to using Copics, so I opted not to do any shading since I needed this card quickly. The sentiment is from my Petite Fours Heartfelt Greetings stamp set.

Teacher thank-you

Hello, friends! Just popping in with a quick card that I made for my daughter's summer camp teachers. She has attended this school for the last 2 years. Her last day at the school will certainly be an emotional one as she will be changing schools with the start of Kindergarten. She has learned so much from her teachers and I am so thankful for all of the things she has learned. We will miss you so much!

I created this adorable apple using my Create a Critter cartridge. I stamped PTI's Library card image in Soft Stone onto my notebook diecut. The sentiment is from Fillable frames #1 stamped in Dark Chocolate on my double ended banners die cut. Sweet and simple.  Thanks for stopping by!
