PTI September blog hop

Hello friends! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. I spent mine hanging out with the family. I did manage to get some craft time when my youngest took his naps. Yay! I whipped up this little project for Papertrey Ink's September blog hop. The challenge is to create a project wrapped in fabric or felt. Look at these gorgeous inspiration photos.

I was inspired by the bottom right photo. Since I make some clothes for my kiddos, I always save the scrap fabrics. Those scraps are perfect for these simple handmade gift wraps.

For my project, I created a small gift box using my Martha Stewart score board. I trimmed 2 pieces of Kraft cardstock to 8x8. For the base, I scored at 2 inches and 6 inches, turning the paper sideways once and repeating. To make the lid, I scored at 2 inches and 6 1/8 inches and again, repeated after turning the paper. I found the longest piece of scrap fabric that I had and trimmed it using my pinking shears. To wrap my box, I pulled the fabric up, tied one knot and then pulled the ends back down. I trimmed them to "sit" underneath the fabric on the botton.

For the flower, I used Hawaiin Shore felt. I am sure if you own any of this, you will know just how fabulous it cuts, like butta. I just cranked my Beautiful Blooms II #2 die through my Cuttlebug. I made 8 cuts. I laid one down for the base. Then I placed four of them folded in quarters on top and stitched down. The next layer, I placed two of them folded in half and stitched down. The last one I quartered, but stitched it in place to stand upright. The flower is not currently attached since I ran out of time to make it into a hair clip. I plan on glueing it to an alligator clip and then it will slip back onto the fabric.

For kicks, I thought I would share some photos of where this fabric came from. I have shared it previously on my blog, but here it is again. These photos are of my daughter, a year ago. And  here  is a link to my original post for those of you that sew and are interested in the details.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving some kinds words. Happy blog hopping!

  18. Adorable packaging and flower. Using leftover scraps is such a great idea. I always hate throwing anything out!! I think I will start to cut my leftover fabric pieces into long strips so they are ready to use on gift packages. TFS!!
